What is progress? Improvement, Advancement, movement towards a higher stage and it is also the opposite of regress. Progress is also debatable depending on which side of the table we sit. World over people conflict ideas of progress. If we were to combine progress and regress together and strip of its quality to move forward or backward the whole thing becomes just movement in some direction. Time always advances and associates with some change especially in living beings which grow older with time, it is an advancement of age for sure, but is it necessarily advancement always for other things?
Can we look at movement in time that is not a forward or backward? We can if we are unsure of the concept of direction. Imagine a large space where you can’t see a starting point or no end point which direction of movement is forward which is backward? But we live in a world where there are definite rule for progress and regress though we agree or not. But the question remains if we are really moving?
In the past few days we discussed the concept of two life streams that exist in any person. The external self as we know is our connection with the world and people around us and so it can be required to follow the rules of the world. With respect to the concept of progress let us for a while give our external self a free ride by the rules of the world, without any controlling let it approach movement (progress) as defined by the world, it could be our social stature, wealth, outlook, politics or anything that can be represented as having an improved state at any time. So our external self now moves as per the rules of the world step by step in a direction defined as improvement and advancement by the world.
Now let us take a look at our internal self and consider it having movement that does not have a quality of progress or regress. It is just a plain movement that happens by the passage of time, we don’t have a direction, no need to improve anything, and we can choose to do nothing if we want to. Imagine the internal self as floating in space not forced to move in any direction. In due course our external self will start kicking in and add the elements of progress (as it knows) into this space. It might also force our internal self to define progress and also push its own definition of improvement.
This is where we start the process of accepting and analyzing; we accept all the definitions of progress from our external self and allow it move with our internal self in the space. Now what you have is an open space with your internal self floating with the definition of progress and direction and advancement and many other elements created by the world. Now we slowly add a few more elements into the mix. We add goodness, we add our unanswered questions about life and we add our experiences from our external self and our deductions. We let them also float and then slowly in the space try to reconstruct a definition for progress and advancement. This is an ongoing activity and at any time we can see if our reconstruction makes sense and if needed influence our external self.
Contradiction is not considered a good thing to happen, especially when it is about a person’s views. But people change, their views and their opinions about many things in life and we have seen people contradict on what they have said before. Falsification leading to contradiction is one thing, but here my point is about contradicting one’s own opinion and view on things. Now some people go ahead and validate and reason a contradiction while some get caught off guard when others point it out. Those who get off guard often never realized that they have had a change in their interior self (inner self if you like) and this contradiction is its manifestation on the external self.
If one was to give himself the leverage to contradict his or her own opinion, there is a high chance that he or she will not be looked upon well by others. People might take this as a sign of unreliability because they only connect with the external self. We live in a world where external selves connect and collaborate with one another. There are multiple ways to address this
The first is that your internal self can remain connected or disconnected with your external self. If connected it can influence the external self there by alter your connection with another person’s external self and vice versa. Now realizing this connection and accepting that this connection exists with every individual you might have a different outlook not just in your contradicting ideas but also in approaching and welcoming the other person’s contradicting ideas. Before a contradiction happens between two external selves of two individuals there is an influence and change happening between one’s own internal and external self.
Contradiction of one’s own opinion and being open about it is very important for one’s growth as that should be considered as change and progress. And here we might have to redefine what we mean by progress (but that is for another day) in the context of dual selves.

It is ok to Contradict!
Is there something every man searches for and his end is when he realizes it. If every man gets what he searches he ends this life and moves on. If that is the case many people would not want to achieve whatever they are searching unless they are suicidal. But then there are two aspects to it. Are all people searching the same thing, the same truth, and the same mysterious knowledge? If they are searching for the same thing, then death happening at different time for different people will mean that they are achieving the same truth or knowledge at the different times. If every person has a different truth or a different version of the truth that he or she searches, then also it explains the death coming at different times.
Now if there is a search that happens in one’s life, does this happen knowingly or unknowingly? Should the human being be aware of the possibility of such a search and pursue it. May be many people are aware and they package it in their own way through religion, faith, God, Philosophy, family, responsibility, material wealth, education and other forms. They probably live a life that is much in connection with their fellow humans, but internally follow a path alone that they think will take them where they want to. So every human life could be a combination of two lives one internal and one external. For some these two lives sync, for some they contradict and for some both never meet

Keep exploring; Life will move on!
Why don’t you see it from my side? Yes Really, Why don’t you see it from my side? Be it work or family the problem is the inability to see from both sides. The fact that you belong to one side and you have to safeguard your side makes you so incapably closed to other person’s situation. There is another term called “step back and analyze” where you take a step back so the other side is not in your blind spot and you are able to really understand what the other person is trying to tell you. Or to understand what the story on the other side is.
The truth is that every side has a story that they firmly believe in. It is also true that both sides need not necessarily be Continue reading
We always here people praise the past and say how thing have turned for the worse now. You talk about jobs, life style and much more. I keep wondering if for them to feel that this present time is good, they might have to go into the future and then look back. There could be two reasons for this. Either people realize the beauty of a time only after it is passed, or it might be that if you say the past was better, you can avoid acting in the present. This is a clear act of pushing the solution away from your hands and reach so that you can blame everything on time.
Time will reverse situations, but that does not mean that one always looks back and see what was lost. The past can give us so much energy and power to face the
A sense of belonging makes people act differently in different groups. The sense of belonging is accompanied by a sense of being which in turn helps them in understanding their role within a group. If you look at work people perform better if they have a sense of belonging with the workplace and others there. In social circles people contribute better and positively to the relationships if they fit in well. If the sense of belonging is not there, people would start acting different and this affects their performance at work, society and their relationships with coworkers and friends.
Is it possible to generate a sense of belonging in oneself and in others? In others it is much easy, just accept them whole heartedly. But if you are in a situation where you don’t know if you are accepted yet, how do you create a sense of belonging. This can be tough and the best way I can think of is by reaching out to others. Finding common grounds can take time, but if you try you can always find common grounds to connect and that would be the best way for you to start generating a sense of belonging.
One core aspect to this is spread yourself in a varied set of interests so that you feel at home at many places. You can always pick the guy who does not belong in a group, just by watching him closely. It is not tough to learn more and be involved in more; you will like things when you learn more about. I have been in groups as a core member and I have been thrown out of some because I never fit in, never was able to generate a sense of belonging myself I guess. That too is part of life.
When you are born you don’t belong anywhere, it is the life you lead that makes you belong to places. People change companies, change friend circles, change social circles and even family dynamics change and you remain in one and fall out of another because you lose your sense of belonging or others lose that connection with you. To be included you need to be inclusive and to be inclusive you need to be open.

Belong and be longed for!
People are diverse, so are their interests. Most people want to do a lot of things in life and often think a good deal about it but sadly the majority of time these remain just in thoughts. I know this for sure because many things I want to do myself are just in my thoughts. The barriers to start are so tall that one never really goes over it to face the hurdles of doing it.
This starting trouble can look so personal and only affecting you, but it is quite universal. Even the guy who does a hundred things will have another couple that he has not been able to start doing. For this guy, time might be the barrier and not a starting trouble. First and foremost never feel bad if you have not started, it is never late to do what you love
People always seem quite engaged and busy but when asked if this is what they really want, there is a long silence. And then hesitantly comes an avalanche of what all they want to do. Why then the delay? Thoughts to action can be a long way, but there is a way for sure. One should realize that there are a few things or journeys in life that you should start without thinking where it will lead you to. One such journey is starting to do what you love.
This can be simple things you love to do, Painting, studying, writing, making movies, singing, anything that brings happiness to you. While these are all activities that have given people wealth, power and fame, my take is if you love something don’t keep your ears tuned to the cash register ringing, do it whole heartedly and you will find happiness.
To start anything you love you don’t need a grandiose plan, you need to first start it from within you and it will find its way outside. Life is quite long a journey and you will find a time in life when the hustle bustle is all over and then the only thing you will have is your happiness. Never feel you have wasted time doing what you don’t love. Do it now, Don’t Wait…

‘The White Tiger’ by Aravind Adiga, you will love it if you like some dark humor. The Indian english novels are quite interesting and gives a whole different perspective. And here Aravind showcases a man’s quest to break off from his current existence and how he self analyses and defends all what he does how ever bad and brutal it is. The author is able to guide you perfectly through the mind of a guy whom you finally confuse to relate as an entrepreneur, victim, murderer or opportunist
Also had a chance to finish Rashmi Bansal’s “Stay Hungry Stay Foolish” which talks about 25 IIM graduates who got into business, some by planning for it, some accidentally. More that the individual journeys what is interesting is each person’s advice to entrepreneurs.
