Now we officially have a teenager in our house. Rhea, Today you become a teen. wow!

You have been talking about it for the last two years and finally the day has come. I am sure you must be feeling great. I wish that you be excited just like this on all your future birthdays in life.

As people grow older some loose the charm of a birthday, they say they are getting older. Buy Hey! its your special day! enjoy. I am also new to this teen business because when we grew up we never had the 13th birthday as a landmark. Not that we used to skip a year 🙂 but it just goes by just like any other birthday. For us getting into high school was a landmark we looked forward to because that puts us in the last leg of our journey towards becoming a college goer.

But I guess now being a teen comes with it a lot more than when we grew up. The world has changed over so many decades and kids your age are now more mature than when we were the same age. You guys know a lot more than what we did back then. Be it life, dreams and aspirations of future, the will to chase it, planning ahead and simply what each one of you are capable of, you are a much stronger generation than us in my opinion.

The catch is that the world becomes more demanding and starts looking at you as having grown up and more responsible. It will also slowly start putting small responsibilities on your shoulders so you can make them stronger to carry your life ahead

So while being thirteen gives you a ticket to watch a PG-13 movie, it also puts on you the responsibility to give back to the world and take care of yourself in this world. To be sensible and more understanding of the people around you and make more informed decisions about the rights and wrongs in life. We are  always there next to you to help, but we also want you take small decisions in life that will make you happy. Keep an open and clean mind to the world around.

You would remember that when we took you to the orientation for your VII grade, they told you that now on there will not be any spoon feeding, you will have to take care of yourself. Well I guess that was the beginning. But I am happy that you have been so responsible in what you do and your shoulders are already strong to take the responsibilities of a teen 🙂

We have always been proud of you for the way you have taken care of things in your life and just like every year, I have one more thing to say with the birthday wish.

Your Birth and your Birthdays are not something you had much choice with, but what every birthday can make you is fully in your control and I am sure you will do the best of this power that you have to change yourself for the better with every birthday in life 🙂
