Making a sweet movie is tough because unlike the sweets we eat the expression of sweetness in a movie is different for different people. So when you say a movie is sweet you should understand someone else could feel different….But Barfi is an exception.. Just like the name the sweetness in the movie I believe will be equally shared by all viewers.
A movie that has both artistic and commercial value is a big success not just in monetary aspects but also from the contribution it makes to the film industry… Barfi is a true addition to the Bollywood good makes. When you make a movie that does not show the use of guns and the only gun they show is the one that burst crackers, you can understand that the movie makers aim to send a message that love, laughter and simplicity is the key to happiness.
Now coming to the movie….Playing a deaf and mute character is not a new thing in Indian cinema and we have seen Sanjeev Kumar in Koshish and Nan Patekar in Khamoshi….But what makes Ranbir Kapoor different is that he has done it exceptionally well and it is no small feat to take a role that might get compared to the likes of Sanjeev and Nana and then do it well…
Ranbir proves that he is a mix of everything best that came out of kapoor family in additional to exceptional acting (which in my opinion was not the forte of the RK family). As always my review will not touch the plot of the movie but to give you an idea of some other interesting things with Barfi….
The location at Darjeeling is a treat for the eyes and the visuals are enchanting and straight from your child hood imaginations when you hear a sweet story….The script is well done and you don’t feel left out even once and all the people behind the scenes has ensured that they take the viewer through the entire movie….. Priyanka did a good job with the role of a woman with autism….but out and out it is an RK movie…..
It is a good Family entertainment and I would suggest you catch it in the theaters….you don’t always get to watch such movies….if you are those who see only one movie a month then this should be your choice for september…and if you have already had your september quota….then Barfi is a good reason to make an exception and go and watch…You and your family will love it……
