We have learned that Music sets us free and now in Kashmir the all girls band is forced to quit singing because of death threats from religious fundamentalists…. The Grand Mufti of Jammu and Kashmir, Bashir-u-Din recently issued a fatwa (religious decree) against the band…. The Band Pragash meaning ‘light’ is forced into the dark by people who can never stand the light in the lives of others…

It is extremely sad that in a democratic secular natio, religious fundamentalist goons are able to to put forward their own law and dictates… And for the kind information of people in Kashmir.. Kashmir is a part of India and people in Kashmir will and should be protected under the law of the nation…

No citizen or religious group should have a right to push a religious decree in a secular country…. We have had M F Hussain, Salman Rushdie and most recently Kamal Hassan all who have come under the sword of religious fundamentalist mockery… But this fatwa against these girls who love music and are singing about love goes a bit too far…

These people who bring out a hue and cry have nothing better to do…. People objecting these girls from singing is nothing different from people who put fancy rules on how girls and women should live in the society…. These are people who cannot even in their dreams consider the boy and girl to be equal. They can’t imagine the girl doing everything the boy does….. It is high time they wake up from their sleeps and look at the world……
