Watched Samaantar (parallel) a 2009 Marathi movie by Amol Palekar…. He also acts in the movie… for a long time at least in hindi I have not seen him on screen. And last time I experienced him behind screen was in Paheli in hindi… which for some reason did not give me a lot from Amol as a director…

But Samaantar is an interesting movie both from Amol as a director and from him as an actor that shows us that he still has that screen likability in him… Though his role is not exactly the next door guy of his younger ages.. the movie showcases the usual simplicity that is woven into his characters…

The movie tells us the story of a successful businessman who is turning 60 and contemplating suicide in the name of voluntary death… but he meets his sweetheart from college… through an interesting narration the movie showcases the plight of life when man has to deal with the questions of time, control, age, future and change…… The movie also has Sharmila Tagore as his college sweet heart…. though not much… she also blends well into the character…

I loved the movie…. but I am sure there are more acclaimed movies from Amol directorial factory in Marathi language…. And this is my first Marathi film by Amol Palekhar though I know he has been doing a lot in the Marathi language since he left the Bollywood scene as an actor…. Hope that netflix brings more such movies…. Would like to see more.. if there is online site where you can subscribe and watch such Indian movies please let me know
