What I liked and did not about Satyagraha

Satyagraha-MovieReviewI love watching Prakash Jha movies for his large canvases that bring forth socio political issues and I have enjoyed watching his Gangajal, Apaharan, Aarakshan and Chakravyuh…. I did not like Rajneeti because its trailer had given me so much expectation that the movie failed to deliver….

With Satyagraha I did not have a lot of expectations… because after the debacle with Rajneeti I had stopped expecting especially when the movie clearly demands to expect more…..

First what I liked.. The performances were good…. it is always fun watching Bachchan, Bajpai and Ajay Devgn on screen. I have never been a fan of Arjun or Kareena.. but they were ok… The movie had a good pace to it that could get you well through the movie till the end… The character of Ajay Devgn is new – a businessman turned revolutionary…

What I did not like is that knowing that the theme is a very complex one and tried many time Prakash could have bought a different perspective to it like he did in Chakravyuh… it was possible with the movie in my opinion… Some characters and politicians looked so repetitive and coming from some old Mithun movie like ‘Brashtachar’ or so…

The character of Arjun Rampal and his yuv morcha did not gel as they just broke into the movie out of nowhere and have a big following and yet no political inclination and more over they are fiery and even armed… Some background into his character would have given some sense to the existence in the movie

And then I did not like the Anna-like appearance of Bachchan in the movie… not sure why.. then may be that was the selling point for the movie….
