Gomorrah – life during the time of crime

Gomorrah1Gomorrah is a 2008 italian film that I watched sometime back…..Directed by Matteo Garrone, based on the book by Roberto Saviano the movie takes you through five intertwined stories all connected and impacted by organized crime of the crime syndicate camorra… The stories unveil through some interesting characters..

I am not a great fan of crime movie but I like watching especially foreign language crime movies because they for some reason seem to be made in a more realistic way…. May be because the elements of fiction probably blends with my imaginations of reality in a foreign setting…

The movie keeps you glued through the very realistic depiction of its characters…

A middleman who distributes money to imprisoned clan members and how the clan rivalries changes his life as he gets threatened by opposite clan to defect his own group….does he agree… if he does where does that lead him to…

Gomorrah2Another story is about a young grocery delivery boy living amidst the drug and bullet stricken neighborhood and how he watches as life moves on around him… will he also get enlisted…. what is the future…

There is also a young graduate who takes up job in a waste management company that illegally dumps waste even using kids to drive the trucks when drivers don’t agree… Torn between career, right and wrong… he has to make choices….

A tailor who decides to make some extra money by training chinese garment workers at night… the chinese garment companies compete with the crime syndicate controlled firms making him also involved in the crime supply chain…

Two youngsters charged up watching Hollywood crime movies dream of being gangsters and land up on a hidden load of guns and ammunitions… they too start a career life… but when crime mushrooms unconnected outside the crime syndicate…crime is not all the same…

Worth the watch…. some might think it is a bit slow…. but the slow time spent is worth it… because I am writing this review after few months of watching it…. the movie still is in my mind….
