I did not know about Dry January till about the 10th of Jan. That was not the intention. One 4th evening I decided that I should take a 30 day break from alcohol. A few days later someone asked if it was the dry January and that is when I started reading about it.
Yesterday I completed the 30 days and I wanted to share how to went. At first evenings felt empty as it had been a habit to come home from work and pour a drink and sit. It often does not end at that one and each drink gets stiffer than the other.
One of the reason to try this 30 days is because I have been feeling that the alcohol consumption had increased. To fill the evening I started drinking some luke warm water. I even got some non alcoholic beer just in case and had them a few days during the last 30 days.
After 15 days I started finding some significant change in my sleep. I was waking up less at night and I also stopped having dry throat. When I started this 30 day abstinence, I was looking forward for today to have a bourbon. I decided no. I am ok for now.
I am not saying I quit but just that today I don’t feel like drinking.
