Raanjhnaa and the shades of Male Chauvinism…..

RaanjhanaaWatched Raanjhnaa during weekend… the motivation was to see Dhanush in the hindi movie and that I heard it was the story about JNU politics…. But what I saw was shades of Male chauvinism across the characters and their dialogues….. Not sure if that was intentional or the story writer and filmmaker thought that is how life should be… well then there is an issue….

The woman in the movie is the one always at fault and the men are beyond any ill doings….. the movie over and over questions the capability of the female character… be it in love, intelligence or capability… there are many dialogues and situations that make you feel so… I don’t want to mention any here except for one dialogue that tells “never try to do do what the woman thinks and tells you.. you will get into trouble….’

Mohammed-Zeeshan-Ayyub-and-DhanushNow this is not a one off dialogue but throughout the movie you see that the dignity of women are questioned….. such a shame… Also the movie turns very unrealistic in the second half… not sure what the filmmakers were trying to message out….

Of this grave negativity in the movie the positive is the hero’s side kick Murari played very well by Mohammed Zeeshan Ayub… He seems to have a good future and looks like the only sensible guy in the whole movie….

Even if they remove the unwanted dialogues of male supremacy they could have made the movie with absolutely no impact on the storyline or content… they chose not to and that is sad.. Also they make a mockery of new age politics…. a student leader loved and respected by all who does not think copying in exams is bad.. wah!… what were these guys thinking about….
