Watched Vishwaroopam yesterday and all the while I had two questions in my mind…. why is this movie great and what would be the reason the protesters are blocking its screening… Both remain unanswered….
Though Unlike other movies we have seen… here one could argue that there are more references to religion… though not in a bad sense. But some specific scenes like doing Namaz before an attack etc… could have been misunderstood…
But the movie also shows people on the good side from the same religion pray before bringing the bad guys down… so the inherent message should be that it is not religion but the nature of people and selfish interests of a few that cause terror… and not a religion…
I think the Protesters should first watch the movie and also do some thinking before shouting…. The movie is not an assault on any religion or religious sentiments…. the makers are just telling a story (told a hundred times in many languages) and I think they have done every bit in the selection of characters and storyline to ensure that the message is positive and not hurting anyone… The movie only reiterates the fact that the terrorists have always used one religion or other as a defense argument to inflict terror….
Again in our world people protest for every sneeze even if they don’t sneeze on your face… Kamal has taken a theme already showcased many times and he is not bringing anything new…. Also one should be aware of the Secular credentials of the film maker… people in sound mind will understand…. that being said the movie also has nothing great to claim as its own…. just another movie telling the same story….
Though I will have to agree that the action sequences in the movie are made exceptionally well and in many of the scenes you will feel like watching some big budget hollywood movie…. That credit goes to Kamal and his team… but you could have done all these at a lesser budget…
Also for Kamal…. I felt he looked quite out of shape for many scenes….. From a person like Kamal you are not at fault if you expect more and leave the theatre unhappy… There have been better thriller movies in Indian cinema without all these hue and cry…. often telling stories on the same theme…
You can watch the movie if you are a Kamal fan or if you feel he needs to be supported amidst the bans…. And for me that were the reasons and not really the movie… I like watching Kamal movies and I think it is the state’s responsibility to protect its certificate and not heed to protesters…
so if you don’t fall into either of those two brackets… then you could wait….
