Watched the movie “Adaminte Makan Abu” translated as “Adam’s son Abu” India’s official entry to OSCAR. Though I had an idea about what the movie was, I really wanted to watching it and I should say it was a well spend 101 minutes (much shorter than usual Malayalam movies).
This is a very important story that I think people world over should hear and the cast has done a great job bringing to life the various characters in the movie. The movie revolves the elderly muslim couple who are trying to go on a pilgrimage to Mecca or Hajj. The movie brings takes the viewer through the relevance of hajj and what it means to go on Hajj.
This is one of the most secular movies I have seen that revolve around the theme of a religious pilgrimage. Its characters who belong to several religions come together in the centered theme of Hajj as they all believe in the sacredness of pilgrimage. The movie touches on the important aspects of the Islam religion like simplicity, forgiveness and adhering to principles.
I would love to see this movie selected to the final list of foreign movies because the movie truly tells us that we don’t need to belong to the same faith to love each other. Every faith tells you to love one another and even tells you that every living being has a life that should be protected. This movie is a movie of life, compassion, acceptance and above all love.
The movie made me think that the key to any religion is not in the hand of a God. but in the hands of the humans who believe in it. Man is always free to interpret his religion in anyway as long as the underlying philosophy is love, equality of all humans (believers or non believers), non violence and the importance of life. This is a must see movie where at the end you will surely have a strong belief in goodness.
