Tomorrow, November 1st is the National Novel Writing Month where online creative writers come together to accept the challenge to create a 50000 or more words Novel. This means penning slightly more than 1600 words a day starting November 1st and ending on November 30th.
The aim is on quantity than on quality, because there are limitations when you try to write a fresh novel in a short time span. Everyone who completes the challenge is a winner. There are no prices for the winners, but they will have a Novel to work on and publish.
The challenge was started in 1999 in San Francisco Bay Area with 21 people enrolling. In 2008 119000 people took the challenge and 21,720 reported winners were there. In 2010 around 200000 people took up the challenge and around 37,500 completed it.
For the rules you can write on any genre or theme. Starting at midnight November 1, novels must reach a minimum of 50,000 words before 11:59:59 PM on November 30, local time. You can either write a 50000 word Novel or write the first 50000 words of a larger novel that you might complete later.
Interesting? Then you should try it. I am trying, and let’s see what we have on Nov 30th. The Philosophy is quantity over quality. Writing and framing what you think and see how it shapes up. I will update progress as we go forward.
