Autumn Spring (Babí léto) directed by Vladimír Michálek is a beautiful czech movie about an aging old man Fanda (played by Vlastimil Brodský) and his ongoing pranks to avoid growing up. His wife Emilie (played by Stella Zázvorková) is out of options trying to tell the man that it is an age when they should be thing about their funeral and deciding on where they need to be laid to rest. She has been saving money for this and planning to move to an old age home.
Fanda on the other hand finds no reason to be rejoicing about the money saved that can get him a great funeral or even be able to rest in peace in a place of his choice. He and his friend eda (played by Stanislav Zindulka) go on with their pranks impersonating sometimes as ticket checkers who stop beautiful girls who have not taken tickets in the subway and ask for a kiss in return for not fining them.
Sometimes they act as wealthy americans who are planning to buy a mansion and in the process play pranks with the agents who are trying to sell the mansion. Their pranks are always harmless but often annoying to many and they don’t always get away with it and as a result Fanda has to dig into Emilie’s savings or use up his pension money…Which also always gets him in a tough spot with her.
The movie is all about life…the fact that you enjoy every bit of it and never really have to grow up if you really need to enjoy it. The story revolves around the comical fights between Emilie and Fanda and how Fanda gets Emilie to become his co-conspirator when Eda is no more able to join due to his deteriorating age….in enjoying life through harmless pranks.
The movie if all about living the moment and telling how unimportant money can get in life after the basic needs are met…. the whole silliness of forgetting to live while alive
One of the best movies I have seen in recent times.. Highly recommended…..
Can you help me to get a CD or download of this movie?
