This is a very important talk by film maker Deeyah Khan. And here was my comment on TED.
Deeyah,
Thanks for sharing these stories with the world and for doing what is in the best interest of kids growing up. I remember a quote by Denis Waitley “The greatest gifts you can give your children are the roots of responsibility and the wings of independence.” If you do not give both then they can grow up to be someone they would not have been.
Your talk speaks for the responsibility you have taken upon yourself to provide that wings of independence to many of those who are even today forcibly succumbed to traditions that instead of setting them free hold them captive.
