Beef & Cow Politics – POEM #13 NATIONAL POETRY MONTH 2019

They barged in and shouted
“What are you eating..?”
A small kid looked at an adult
a half chewed piece in her mouth..
aghast…
at what was happening
before anyone could say anything….
the beating had began…

Some cried…
for some the voice just did not come out…
what was eaten
just grumbled in the stomach
like an uncommitted crime
facing judgement

When the beating stopped
a body lay lifeless…
someone declared
it was not beef…
and they all left
the cow grazed without
knowing that a murder just happened
in her name….
