Madras Cafe – Memories of the times we grew up

Madras-Cafe-Hindi-MovieThere is controversy and as we all know controversy sells in films…. But when you touch anything that has two sides controversy comes to existence…. but if you look at the craft of movie making, it is a positive cinematic experience… When I go for a movie I don’t expect to be watching a documentary where you then start relaying in what is shown there… just enjoy the art of film making…

Madras Cafe is a well crafted political thriller that keeps you at the edge of your seat…. It took me back to 1991 when the nation was asking to each other, why? how? Why couldn’t anyone stop it?…. The movie takes us through a story of those times and the culmination of it all…

It was nice to see Siddharth Basu in a major role and I think he does a very good job… John abraham did well so did many other characters in the movie Nargis Fakhri did not have much to do but her role as a London reporter worked well with her accent…

Madras-Cafe-stillsThe movie also brought in memories of those times… Irrespective of which side of the political spectrum you are; when a leader in your country is assassinated, as a citizen you are lost…. I still remember that day in 1991 when it happened… Though my political ideologies had never resonated with that of his party, the news went deep into my heart just like for every Indian… people grieved unaware of political walls that were built between them… Rajiv Gandhi at the time of assassination was only 46 years old…

46 is a very young age and now in my forties I can feel how young that is…. We always scream now that the nation should be in young hands… those were times when it was in young hands… it is not always about politics it is about people…. but those young hands were severed too quickly before us….

Finally when the movie ends with the recitation of Rabindranath Tagore’s poem it does give an extraordinary patriotic touch to the movie… And sharing that poem here with you all

Where The Mind Is Without Fear
Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high
Where knowledge is free
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments
By narrow domestic walls
Where words come out from the depth of truth
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way
Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit
Where the mind is led forward by thee
Into ever-widening thought and action
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.
