Never leave a poem midway – Poem#13 – National Poetry Month

in-love-652485_1280Never leave a poem midway
while you are reading
It is ok to leave stories midway
because stories are not poems
Never leave a poem midway

All stories mean same to all readers
Story writers will not agree
Even I will not agree
if you ask me after I have written mine
Never leave a poem midway
because poems are not stories

Every poem is a new poem
every time you read
Every poetry reader is a
new person at the end of every poem
So Never leave a poem midway

All incomplete poems
castaway by the reader
go back to the poet
they complain about the reader
they force the poet to write a new poem
for every incomplete one
even poets have their limits
never leave a poem midway

There is a collection of half read poems
in my attic
they climb down at night and sit on my bed
by my side
I try to fool them by acting asleep
but they poke me with their
rough pointy half read edges
They tell me “As a poet you are responsible”
“You are responsible for every
incompletely read poem of yours
wake up and start writing
Never leave a poem half read”

If you are reading these
I thank you
because poems are not stories and
you should never leave a poem midway
Thank You for reading it complete
You are a new person today
