A few days back I wrote an article about this young film maker Varun Pruthi who has been making such socially relevant videos and I gave him the name Film awakener…Today I am writing criticizing the same person for a different video. What I say here or my opinions do not anyway take back what I said in my last post. Varun’s movies are very uplifting always, but on this one I have a different opinion…

The Video posted at the end is one in which he (Varun) meets people who are making a living on the streets selling small items and struggling to make a living. He goes over to them and asks them “Do you believe in God” and apparently everyone in the video says “Yes” and then he would hand them over a Rs.1000 bill and tell them that “God send me for you”

Now what is not evident from the video is if anyone answered him “NO” to the question. Meaning did anyone tell him that they did not believe in god.

Though the last message in the video says that “before you feel like giving up just think about them”, there is no mention of God anywhere, so not sure if the video was to prove that

• believing in God does not help or that
• only people believing in god gets help (from someone) or that
• there are more people at positions worse than you and by giving them happiness you also become happy.

I am hoping it is the last one. but for that mentioning God is a totally unnecessary thing. For someone to help others, or be happy God is not needed….

A person in need is to be helped and whether they they believe in God or not has nothing to do with it…… This belief system is like a live frog dying in a pan of water that slowly reaches the boiling temperature… it slowly loses its ability to escape and dies suffering the temperature increase slowly…..

The criticism to you Varun is that the belief in god is not what is helping them, it is their ability to fight and not beg and not be at other’s mercy… if you make them believe that god send you and gave them the 1000 note, how more demeaning, disheartening, distorted and dishonest can that be….. because God (whose existence I question) did not do it, you did it with a motive so that you could make a video and then put on youtube and beg (yes beg) for 1 million views and then give 50000 Rs. to 50 people and tell them the same thing that god send you…..?

Both me and you know that a million hits on your video on youtube (if worth Rs.50000 on Ad revenue as you say ) is actually worth much for you and your film career….. I am not saying that is wrong, dude.. you got to do what you got to do…. but accept it the way it is……

What becomes interesting is the comments for the videos youtube had nothing to do with the last message of happiness or your request above,….. all comments revolved around religion and God… heated debates between atheists and believers each stooping to such low level of language…. the believers even were very openly showing their venomous anger towards the LGBT community…. the atheists were competing on how to be inconsiderate….. I wanted to post a few comments but they were so degraded that I prefer not taint my blog with them…..

It is sad when you see that the people in their mind keep so much grudge and hatred but praise you for the good deed you did….. we live in a world where by liking a video or sharing it people believe they have done their part….. I spend a good amount of time on the comments and slowly I also saw some people moderately stepping in both the religion and rational boats at the same time…. these are the interestingly big number of people we see now a days, they like being rational because that makes them feel intelligent but they want an anticipatory bail if God exists and they die and go to hell….. that is what we call a total opportunist when it comes to opinions and self….…..

I have always appreciated all your videos Varun, but this one I have to say I am sorry, did not expect you to do it this way…… I don’t care if you believe in god, religion or anything, but this video, I feel bad you made it and put this request online for likes…. the sentiment you are trying to cash is God or happiness…?

For my readers, do help others but don’t ask them these stupid questions about faith, they have faith in themselves and so they do what they do….. it is not a ‘wait for messiah’ but a ‘honest attempt to make a living’ that counts…

Varun, sorry I will not like the video…. but promise you to do my part for someone without judging his faith or lack of it…..
