Sabeen Mahmud was the woman behind Pakistan’s first Hackathon. She has also founded a Tech Company and a coffeeshop The second Floor (T2F). T2F as people call it is a bookstore + Coffee shop that takes its style from the old coffeeshop culture in lahore and karachi.
On T2F website it says “A community space for open dialogue, T2F provides citizens with a platform for social change through rich cultural activities, public discourse, and advocacy using progressive ideas and the new media.” The kind of place we all would love to hang out… But I guess there were people who did not like open dialogues and a platform where people can progress
The website also says that on Friday April 24 they hosted an event “Unsilencing Balochistan Take 2: In Conversation with Mama Qadeer, Farzana Baloch & Mir Mohammad Ali Talpur” .
As per the Dawn News Paper she was on her way back from the event when unidentified gunmen gunned her down.
It is a shame this happened because over the past few months we have seen several people who promote open dialogues and are bold enough to stand against what they cannot agree with are being eliminated. It is even more important for us all to stand up against these acts of violence because if not there will no more be something called ‘open’ and ‘dialogue’ and we will all be living in a world of ‘closed silence’. A life of captivity painted with fear, irrationality and fanaticism
